September Notes
The month of September is focused on a Patriotic theme. We will revisit old favorites and introduce more challenging songs to enter new musical concepts as listed in the state and national music standards. Please check out these standards in my standards' link. To meet these goals, each music class will be singing, performing on percussion accompaniments, learning various xylophone ensembles, and reading the historical and cultural connections. Grades 3-5 will begin drumming ensembles as well.
It's time for all former 3rd and 4th graders to begin looking under their beds for their recorders. Dust those off and bring them to our music classrooms. For those of you who can't locate them, you will need to buy a new one for $5 cash or check made out to "Hawthorn School." A paper will be sent home asking all current 3rd graders or new students to 4th or 5th grade to purchase a similar model.
Our Monthly Listening Pieces:
Kindergarten: This Land is Your Land Woody Guthrie
1st Grade: Stars and Stripes Forever John Phillip Sousa
2nd Grade: God Bless America Irving Berlin
3rd Grade: Souvenirs D'Amerique Henri Vieuxetemps
4th Grade: Variations on "America" Charles Ives
5th Grade: Fanfare for the Common Man Aaron Copland
